Instructions
Prepare potatoes
: Peel and cut potatoes into evenly sized chunks.
Boil
: Place potatoes in a large pot, cover with cold water, and add 1 tsp salt. Bring to a boil and cook until fork-tender (15–20 minutes).
Drain
: Drain potatoes well in a colander.
Mash
: Return potatoes to the pot. Add butter and mash until smooth.
Add milk
: Gradually pour in warm milk (or cream), stirring until creamy and fluffy.
Season
: Add remaining salt and black pepper to taste.
Serve
: Transfer to a serving bowl. Garnish with melted butter, chives, or parsley if desired.
Notes
Warm milk (not cold) blends better with the potatoes for a creamier texture.
Avoid over-mixing with an electric mixer, as potatoes can turn gluey.
Yukon Golds give a buttery flavor, while Russets are lighter and fluffier.
These mashed potatoes are smooth, rich, and comforting — the perfect side for roasted meats, veggies, or holiday feasts.
