Growth
Growth – Have you ever thought about the concept of ‘growth’ and how it impacts every aspect of our lives, from maturing to reaching a higher level of self-worth and living? We frequently hear the familiar refrain, “Grow up!” when our childish tendencies are on full display, prompting us to become more mature. You should ‘Grow up!’ – they would say.
Well, Growth is essential for every human on the earth’s surface. You couldn’t still suckle at a feeding bottle at 30; it’s not what an adult should do; life demands that you have mastered the art of wielding a spoon and sitting upright at tables. Recognize that our perspectives and priorities shift over time, and what was once important may not hold the same significance now. It’s been a phase of awakening on so many levels of my life as I realize that what mattered last year wouldn’t cause me a sweat this year.
Everyone’s different, and for some, Growth might mean not posting a WhatsApp status; for others, it’s deciding what they choose to worry about. PS, if the former is how you’ve measured yours, I’m not against you; all is fair in life and choices. Growth may be gradual or drastic; some people would be late bloomers, and getting off the wagon last is no offense. Whatever time you wake up deserves a Good Morning.
I speak for myself and my experiences when I say that Growth is a conscious effort to improve. To find strength from all that exists to cripple your mind – to be absolutely disciplined and determined to rise above the filth you previously rolled in. Growth doesn’t happen by chance or simple wishes we make in blue times. It’s a battle from the mind, something that can be described as shedding old skin and basking in newness.
Growth doesn’t need a TED Talk episode explaining how you’ve reinvented yourself; it’s a proof thing. It’ll show – there’s no hiding Growth. It’s the moments that make up for that new path you follow, where you’re making sense of who you are, your purpose, and your conscious efforts to walk in a path that aligns with your goals. Growth is deciding who deserves what in your life. It’s not a personal vendetta to everyone who underrated you, but it’s knowing who or what deserves a reaction and what doesn’t.
In the past few months, I can’t explain all the ways I’ve discovered myself and things – somehow, I think I’ve got superpowers, but the discipline is paying off. The silent prayers when the heat reaches the roof, the meditations and reminders when the anxiety is pounding at the door, and the final resolve to only worry about the things I can control.
These aren’t wise words from a monk, but the reality is that no one can want Growth for you more than you do. No one can wish it on you without your determination to be better. At the end of the day, we could all walk the road in groups, but our paths are singularly ours.
Grow Up! Yes, Grow Up. Make resolutions and have the discipline to keep them. Be wise, see Integrity as some Gold, and let your words hold water. Learn the intelligence in speaking.
No one is waiting for you to catch up. Everyone is Growing and jumping tracks. If it’s important enough to you, then I believe you’ll find a way. May we all keep growing in wisdom and understanding.

Nice piece Presh. Growth in itself is proof of life. The change we desire to see after a period of consistent or not-so-consistent effort is growth. In every facet of our lives, we desire growth. The plot twist is that we can be growing in an undesirable direction, For instance, when you’re picking up bad habits along the way, that’s not exactly a desirable growth.
So, in all you do, strive to grow positively! And when you’re not growing, maybe the conditions are not favorable. Check your environment, check your circle of friends and confidants, and finally, check your habits. Selah!
